The Stanley I. Hallet Architectural Sketchbook Award was created to celebrate freehand, on site sketchbook drawings. Named after the School of Architecture's former Dean, Professor Emeritus Stanley I. Hallet, FAIA, the awards are a special opportunity for Catholic University students to earn a cash prize for their sketchbook and individual drawings.
The goal of the endowment is to encourage free hand sketching in the field, integral in observing, reflecting and analyzing at many different scales the built and planted environments that surround us. The final selection of sketchbook awards were based upon the overall quality of the graphic medium employed, as well as the demonstration of a deeper understanding of the materials used in the structural, architectural, urban and landscape strategies employed in the places and buildings visited.
The event was hosted by //3877 with the help of David Shove Brown. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors were among those who attended.

This year, our esteemed judges had a difficult task; there were many excellent submissions, making it hard to pick only a few winners. They also decided to introduce a new award for Best Individual Sketch, giving students the opportunity to only submit a handful of drawings instead of an entire sketchbook.
Here are the winners:
First Place: Joseph Wolfe
Second Place: Jillian Ingram
Third Place (tie): Paolo Gonzales and Dylan Robertson
Best Individual Sketch: Anna-Grace Williams
Congrats to all of the awardees and to all students who put their work out there! You can check out the event's photo gallery here.
