James Voelzke

Principal of MV+A Architects, Washington, DC

James Voelzke, FAIA, LEED AP, B.S.Arch. 1984, B.Arch. 1985, is the Managing Principal at MV+A Architects, a Washington, DC based firm he helped found in 1994.  He has been responsible for the design and project management of most of the firm’s work, including mixed-use developments, new town centers, food stores, shopping centers, and multi-family housing. He has the background of a well-rounded architect and planner with excellent design and technical skills and is NCARB-certified. His projects have received numerous awards for Design Excellence from the AIA and many other industry awards. In 2016, Jim was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows for his nationally recognized work catalyzing urban redevelopment with new grocery and retail.  Jim is active in the Washington, DC, chapter of the AIA, where he chairs the Fellows Public Program Committee, is a frequent critic at the local universities, and is active in ULI, ICSC and other trade organizations.

Jim and his wife Emma have lived in Washington since their days at CUA, raising their three children and several Labradors. A passionate hiker who has traversed some of the world’s great trails, he is always looking for the next adventure.
