Bio
Patricia Andrasik is an associate professor and a licensed architect in Washington, D.C. She was a Fulbright Student Scholar at the Technical University of Slovakia researching the building effectiveness of mass housing while earning her Master of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma. She then taught as a Visiting Professor in Beirut prior to returning the U.S. to practice. Andrasik is the Director of CUA’s Master of Net Zero Design Program where she regularly develops new courses taught by world renowned building performance experts. In 2015, she received the President’s Award for the Advancement of Teaching at CUA. She also co-founded BEEnow, a non-profit organization which inspires NAAB-accredited schools to emphasize the teaching of low energy buildings.
Informing design through performance metrics, and using performance metrics to evaluate building operations and maintenance bookend her internationally-recognized teaching and scholarly work. More recently, she has applied expertise in building performance analytics (BPA) through integrating technology and social justice in order to democratize high performance building. Her research has been recognized in publications and conferences such as the Journal of the National Institute of Building Sciences (JNIBS), the New Buildings Institute (NBI) National Forum, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), the APPA Leadership in Educational Facilities, the Association for Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), the Façade Tectonics Conference at the University of Southern California, and the AIA/COTE Sustainability Leadership Conference. LEED Lab; A Model for Sustainable Design Education (Routledge 2021) and Heating Cooling Lighting: Sustainable Design Strategies Towards Net Zero Design. 5th ed. (Wiley 2021), which she co-authored with Norbert Lechner culminate her work in building performance evaluation. She is currently working on her next book Plumbing, Electricity and Acoustics: Sustainable Design Strategies Towards Net Zero Design. 2nd (Wiley 2024) and was recently invited to contribute a chapter about technology in environmental ethics in the next edition of Green Discipleship (Anslem Academic 2011).
